Mental health is just as important as our physical health. No matter how well we take care of our physical bodies, we will really need to also look after our mental health. One of the major problems that the society of today are facing is the stigmatization of mental health problems and furthermore, one of the most prevalent of these is depression.
Depression is a serious mental illness or condition that negatively affects a person’s mood and overall persona. It is characterized by feelings of loneliness and sadness, as well as loss of pleasure in doing everyday, normal activities. Many of today’s people, most especially from the youth, are dealing and experiencing depression. It is very alarming because it is directly associated with the fast rising suicide rates of today. But even though, there is still hope. And that hope will come from each and every one of us. It only means that we need each other and should be of help to one another especially to the people who are close to us, that experiences these mental illnesses. Proper awareness and responsibility must also be a great help.
Being a good friend, listener and companion is also another way to help. Mental health awareness is really important for all of us, especially for the youth of today. By proper understanding of these issues and problems, we will be able to be more of help by the people around us. We may also be aware of ourselves more and be able to take care of not only others, but also ourselves, our well beings. May we continue to be a beacon of hope to all.
